Distance: 6373 metres (yellow tees)
Alcaidesa Heathland Course
Designed by Dave Thomas, the heathland course is a recently added addition to the Alcaidesa Golf Resort. Heathland as the name suggests, winds its way inland from the links to form a pleasant change from the coastal layout.
Offering a fair challenge, views from the Heathland course are just as stunning as the ones found from the links course.
Distance: 5866 metres (yellow tees)
Alcaidesa Links Course
For a course with the most stunning views of the Mediterranean and Gibraltar (and on a clear day, even the Atlas mountains of Morocco) it has just got to be Alcaidesa. Situated on the western side of the coast and only about twenty minutes drive from Gibraltar this is a truly wonderful experience. If you're looking for a golf course with beautiful views, there cannot be a more spectacular one than Alcaidesa Links, the westernmost golf course on the Costa del Sol.
Distance: 5712 metres (yellow tees)
Alhaurin Golf Resort is set in the Sierra de Mijas mountains with stunning views down to the Mediterranean. The course is only about a 20 minutes drive from Mijas coast with a completely different atmosphere to most of the other clubs along the coast, whilst it can be extremely challenging it is well worth a visit. The course was designed by Severiano Ballesteros for golfers to enjoy; it encourages players to use all clubs in their bags and ensures a golf day where every hole is different and well kept. You will play amongst pine trees, oak trees, cypress, orange trees and a wide range of herbs, all local to this part of the mountain.
One of their best kept secrets is its 9 holes par 3 course adjoining the driving range, and practice area. This is the place to really improve your game and practice in silence. The Club House has a lovely sun-bathed terrace, there is also an excellent four star hotel at this resort with competitive deals for golf and accommodation (ask our reservations team for details). Buggies Recommended.
Distance: 5926 metres (yellow tees)
Almenara Golf Course, designed by Dave Thomas in 1999, soon became a great favourite with visiting and local golfers. Set around lakes and cork trees, with greens that have been accepted as of tournament quality. Almenara features 3 distinct 9 hole layouts that can be played in any combination, providing 3 different and challenging courses. Set in the Sotogrande area, with its exalted neighbours, Valderrama, Sotogrande, San Roque, and La Reserva , it is maintained to a high standard. There is an excellent five star hotel on the complex and any visit to this part of the coast would not be complete without playing Almenara.
Distance: 5833 metres (yellow tees)
Añoreta golf club is located east of Malaga (at Rincon de la Victoria), and was designed by the renowned Spanish and Ryder Cup player Jose Maria Cañizares. There are some quite difficult holes on this course and also some spectacular scenery with sea and coastal views to enjoy. The fairways and greens are generally fairly wide, accuracy is important with water hazards on many holes.

Set amongst the rolling Ronda hills, Los Arqueros is just a short drive from San Pedro de Alcantara and Puerto Banus, accessible from the coast road, but the closest access is via the toll road. There are lovely scenic views all the way down to the Mediterranean Sea. This is a very challenging course, with three lakes, but golfers of all levels will enjoy playing here. Buggies recommended.
Atalaya Golf and Country Club, the official headquarters of the PGA of Europe, which covers 29 countries and 7.500 golf professionals. Distance: 5860 metres (yellow tees)
Atalaya Old Course
One of the oldest courses on the coast, the old course at Atalaya was opened in 1968. A beautiful tree lined course that brings a touch of British parkland to the mountains and coast of southern Spain. Always in good condition and one of the few walkable courses on the Costa del Sol.
Distance: 5044 metres (yellow tees)
Atalaya New Course
The new course at Atalaya is a little shorter than its bigger brother but still provides a fair challenge and is excellent value for money.
Distance: 5330 metres (yellow tees)
Baviera is accessed directly from the motorway Velez Malaga/Nerja, (approx half-hour drive from Malaga) this is a most enjoyable course, with excellent mountain and sea views. A new clubhouse has recently opened Baviera is a very popular course suitable for all level of golfers.

Situated almost halfway between Marbella and Fuengirola, just inland from Cabopino Port this course has spectacular views of the Mediterranean and the coast. It was opened in March 2001. The 3rd hole is truly spectacular, a short par 4 featuring a 60 metre drop from tee to fairway - possible birdie, easy bogie!! This is an interesting and challenging course, buggies were compulsory originally, but now you can walk if you choose.
La Cala Golf has three superb 18 hole golf courses, all designed by American Cabell B. Robinson, they all have their own special features. There is also a Leadbetter Academy and a five star hotel on the resort with excellent sporting facilities. These three courses are very popular and early booking particularly for groups is recommended. Buggies are recommended at all La Cala courses.
Distance: 6009 metres (yellow tees)
Campo America - La Cala Resort
Campo America (formerly The North Course) is the longest of the three layouts at La Cala stretching over 6,500 yards. Starting with three flat holes, it becomes much more testing once you reach the par 3, 4th. With bunkers and a ravine guarding the green, an accurate tee shot is required to post a good number here. Possibly the best hole on the course however, is the 16th which offers spectacular views of the entire resort and the coastline. Like all the par 3s here, 16 is no different, with bunkers on the left and a lake running around the front of the green; once again, precision is the key to a good score.
Distance: 5925 metres (yellow tees)
Campo Asia - La Cala Resort
Campo Asia is also pretty spectacular. With plenty of challenging holes along the way, you are guaranteed a testing round of golf. Water guards both greens at the 3rd and the 14th and in terms of a test of golf course strategy, the 18th couldn't be much better. Just remember not to over-club off the tee or this lengthy par 5 could well wreck your scorecard.
Distance: 6014 metres (yellow tees)
Campo Europa - La Cala Resort
As with Campo America and Campo Asia, this course was designed by Cabell B. Robinson. An excellent test, it is the latest addition to the resort and is spread over 108 hectares of land. A lot of attention went into protecting the surrounding vegetation (lavender, rockrose, rosemary and palmettos can be found all around the course) and as a result, the 6,576 yard layout is as stunning as it is challenging. Great use is made of the Ojen River, which cuts its way through eight of the holes and is a cunning hazard on all of them. The course is a great example of the modern game, with wide-open fairways and large greens for the high handicappers and some very long holes to test the more able golfer. For example the par 3, 14th measure 254 yards from the back tees and the par 5, 11th measures 573 yards.
Distance: 5736 metres (yellow tees)
Calanova Golf Club is situated in the La Cala golf valley, between the sea and the Mijas mountains. It has some extraordinary mountain and sea views. Players will find each hole exciting in its own way. The golf course has a variety of fairway layouts. All are wide and clear, allowing good vision of any obstacles. Calanova offers 18 holes of golf designed to be enjoyable and challenging at the same time. The clubhouse offers privileged views from the terraces towards the ocean and the “Sierra de Mijas”. In short, it is a great golf course meeting the demands of low and high handicap players.
Distance: ???? metres (yellow tees)
This is the only municipal course on the Costa del Sol, this does not however detract from its reputation as an excellent golf course, take into account that there have been more Spanish champions from this area than any other in Spain. It is very close to the very best courses on this coast and can truly hold its own. The course is very popular with locals and many visitors enjoy playing here.
Distance: 5402 metres (yellow tees)
El Chaparral opened in the 1990’s and was very popular, sadly the course was closed for many years until it reopened recently, this course runs along the undulating coastline of Mijas Costa, entrance is between La Cala village and Fuengirola. Managed by the Aymerich Group. El Chaparral is stunning, with views of the Mediterranean from most holes. It is very challenging course with exceptional tour standard greens. Although some do walk we would always recommend taking a buggy.
Distance: 5629 metres (yellow tees)
Doña Julia Golf Resort is located in the Estepona area. This is a relatively new course. Its construction makes the most of the natural landscape of the area. This course has quickly become very popular with golfers quite happy to travel to play it regularly. It has been built according to United States Golf Association (USGA) rules and regulations with regard to the tees, bunkers, drainage and greens. The spacious greens (average 700m2) are perhaps the most outstanding feature of this course.
Accomodation available in luxury apartments close to the course.
Distance: 5763 metres (yellow tees)
Designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1985, La Duquesa is close to the sea with magnificent views over the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and on a clear day Africa. The demanding course requires accurate driving and concentration. There is a hotel on the complex, recently upgraded to a very high standard.
Distance: 5884 metres (yellow tees)
Recently completed this course is proving very popular. Whilst amateur golfers are finding it an enjoyable and challenging course to play, the professionals are challenged in a different way. The course has been constructed to strict environmental standards ensuring that the natural plants and habitats remain. Finca Cortesin is certainly worthy of adding to your list of courses to play on this part of the Costa del Sol.

Distance: 5860 metres (yellow tees)
The front and back nine's at Guadalhorce are quite different, the front has a Northern European feel about it, with undulating fairways and difficult greens. The back nine has a more American layout with raised greens, lakes and many tropical plants. The greens on both nine's are large, and in some cases they are shared between two holes, although this does not detract from the pleasure of playing this interesting course. The club house at Guadalhorce is a treat in itself it is a beautifully restored and elegant 18th century Andalucian mansion with nice restaurant and good facilities.
Distance: 5733 metres (yellow tees)
Los Caracolillos course at Lauro Golf is the last design of the world renowned Italian golf architect, Falco Nardi, who sadly did not live to see the course finished. It is a parkland course, set in a rural area only 12 km from Malaga airport, planted with orange, lemon, olive and fig trees. With views of mountains to the north and the Mediterranean sea to the south, the course adjoins the protected forest area of the Sierra de Mijas, with eight lakes just waiting to catch you! The views from some holes down to the port at Malaga are breathtaking.
Since opening in 1992, Los Caracolillos has hosted both the Andalucian Junior Finals and the Senior’s Finals, and opened an additional nine making it 27 holes. The clubhouse is an enchanting 200 year old Spanish Cortijo carefully restored to house the restaurant, bar, pro shop, and offices, the traditional patio is the perfect spot for a drink or snack after the game!
Distance: 5437 metres (yellow tees)
This course is available for groups of 12 and over (unless you are staying at Marbella Club, Puente Romano or Torrequebrada Casino Hotel). Another course on the coast designed by Robert Trent Jones, The Marbella Golf and Country Club has some spectacular holes and is suitable for most levels of golfer. The Clubhouse and restaurant are remarkable – the facilities second to none – really worth a visit. Situated on the east side of Marbella, very close to the main coast road. Buggies recommended.
Mijas Golf is one of the Costa del Sol's most popular golf complexes with two excellent 18-hole courses, Los Lagos and Los Olivos. Both courses were designed by Robert Trent-Jones and are always presented in excellent condition for visiting golfers.
Distance: 5973 metres (yellow tees)
Los Lagos - Mijas Golf
Opened in 1976 the older of the two courses, named for the eight lakes that pepper the course. Water comes in to play on at least 9 holes! It is a good walking course being fairly flat and wide.
Distance: 5562 metres (yellow tees)
Los Olivos - Mijas Golf
Named for the abundance of olive trees, is a completely different course to its watery counterpart. It was initially opened in 1984, and has since been completely refurbished. Its undulating fairways, twisted bunkers, small greens and trees have contrived to make it the more challenging of the two and it is a very good test of golf for all handicaps. Mijas continue with a programme of upgrading, their courses are easy to walk, and continue to be popular with returning golfers.
Distance: 4988 metres (yellow tees)
Miraflores Golf Club nestles in the foothills of the Mijas mountains, it is easily accessible from the main coast road, at Riviera del Sol. This is a members club, and one of the most popular social clubs on the coast. Visitors experience a warm welcome from members and staff alike.

Distance: 6022 metres (yellow tees)
Inaugurated in 1925 by the Spanish Royal family, Parador is the Costa del Sol's oldest course. Close to Malaga airport, Parador has always been very popular with UK golfers. It is one of few flat courses along this coast, and is located in an enviable position right on the seashore, where the designers have used some sea water lagoons as part of the course.
Created by Tom Simpson, who also designed Muirfield and Turnberry, Parador has hosted several international events, including the prestigious Turespana Masters in 1999 (won by Miguel Angel Jimenez).
Parador is easy to walk and is suitable for all levels of golfer, although it is still very challenging – particularly on a windy day. The 9 additional holes were added recently providing golfers with effectively three different courses to play.
Distance: 5912 metres (yellow tees)
El Paraíso is one of the few members clubs on the Costa del Sol. It is situated between San Pedro de Alcantara and Estepona. The views from the course are magnificent, you can see the Mediterranean from many holes and with spectactular mountain views it is a pleasure on the eye.
The course, designed by Gary Player, incorporates the natural contours of the land to provide golfers with a course both well designed and attractive. Because it is a members club, there is a very friendly atmosphere, the members are always pleased to see visiting golfers, tee times are obviously limited here so early booking would be advisable.
Distance: 5370 metres (yellow tees)
La Quinta with 27 holes is another popular course in the Nueva Andalucia area, opposite Puerto Banus, access available from either main coast road, or new toll road. This course is kept in excellent condition with good fairways and greens. Again it is has long be a favourite with visiting golfers, early booking is recommended.
The facilities at La Quinta are excellent, there is also a five star hotel, The Westin Golf Resort, the perfect spot for family holidays and golfing breaks.
Distance: 6048 metres (yellow tees)
La Reserva was built to attract the most experienced and discerning golfers to its fairways. It is in the Sotogrande area and is probably the longest course on the coast. It is close to Almenara, Sotogrande, Valderrama and San Roque - formidable neighbours indeed. La Reserva is a beautiful course – and should be included in any quality golf holiday package, (contact our reservations team for excellent hotels in the area).
This is another design by American Cabell B. Robinson, who has been responsible for so many excellent courses on the Costa del Sol.

Distance: 6079 metres (yellow tees)
New Course - San Roque Golf
San Roque New Course description.
Distance: 5558 metres (yellow tees)
Santa Clara is situated in one of the most exclusive areas of Marbella, just east of the town. Designed by Enrique Canales, it has large greens and is frequently selected for corporate events. We find golfers requesting to play this course each time they visit the coast. Water is a feature and bunkers protect many of the greens. Although this is a challenging course it is suitable for most levels of golfer.
Distance: 5355 metres (yellow tees)
Santa Maria golf course is situated close to the main coast road, entrance almost opposite the Don Carlos hotel. It is set in an area of natural beauty, with the mountains and the Mediterranean visible from many holes. This course has always been extremely popular, it has its own members and early booking is recommended if you wish to play Santa Maria. It is a very challenging course there are good facilities within the clubhouse. Buggies are recommended.
Distance: 5654 metres (yellow tees)
Santana situated at the bottom of the La Cala Valley, has proved to be an extremely popular course, and early booking in the high season is advisable. Designed by Cabell B Robinson it has wide fairways and easy terrain, making it quite a high scoring course.
The management of this course is excellent, the greens and fairways are kept in prime condition. Many of the original older trees have been kept which give a feeling of maturity to the course. There are no hills, and it is a pleasure to walk Santana, some of the fairways are quite wide, and our advice would be that this course is best enjoyed on foot, although of course buggies are available for those that wish to use them.
The course is only a five minute drive from the main coast road at La Cala, or can be accessed from Alhaurin (a good second course if you decided to stay in the Alhaurin Hotel).
Distance: 5875 metres (yellow tees)
Sotogrande Golf Course was inaugurated in 1964, and like the course at Valderrama, it too was designed by Robert Trent Jones. Its most outstanding feature is its natural beauty with views out over the sea.
The variety of vegetation gives this course a very special feeling, as it is covered by cork trees, pines and eucalyptus which apart from adding beauty to the course can make for quite a tricky round of golf.
The main hazards on the course, apart from the trees, are the big lakes, where the water will significantly complicate the game, whilst making it an extremely entertaining round, the lack of rough just enhances the game on this truly wonderful course.
Distance: 5763 metres (yellow tees)
Torrequebrada Golf Course is considered one of the best courses in Europe hosting several top tournaments including the Spanish open in 1979. It is an extremely challenging course. Designed by Jose 'Pepe' Gancedo (who has designed courses in Europe and America) it features several outstanding holes using the contours of the region. The fairways are well manicured and lined by over 100 species of trees, with numerous bunkers and water hazards strategically placed, with eight doglegs accuracy off the tee is a must.
The owners of Torrequebrada Golf Course have invested large amounts of finance over the last couple of years, improving the course and the club facilities. A completely new irrigation system has been installed, along with new Caddy master area and Pro Shop. For many years Torrequebrada suffered an unfortunate reputation for service and friendliness, we have to tell you that Torrequebrada not only invested in improving their facilities but also their service levels, if you have ever had any doubts about playing this superb course again – we believe you will not be disappointed with the new Torrequebrada.
Distance: 5995 metres (yellow tees)
Valderrama is the most famous golf course on the Costa del Sol. Host to many golf tournaments over the years, including, of course, the Ryder Cup, it is a truly championship course, but it can also be enjoyed by players of all handicaps, thanks to the genius of Robert Trent Jones Sr whom many consider the leading golf architect of his day. The course helps the handicap golfer by providing tees for several levels, ensuring that all golfers will enjoy the Valderrama experience.
